Home energy visits

We all know that energy prices have been going up and up in recent years and a lot of households are now finding it difficult to heat their homes, many are even having to choose between heating and eating. We work with households to help with ways to reduce energy costs and to ensure that people can afford to live in a warm home.

Every household is different whether it be how you pay for your energy, how you heat your home, your personal circumstances, whether you are in debt with your energy supplier, your attitude to shopping around for the best deals or the issues or challenges you are facing. Home energy visits are the best way to provide one-to-one advice that is specific to your own circumstances.

We receive grant funding to provide home visits in the Selby District. This means that our advice is:

      1) Free of charge to most residents as our running costs are covered by a grant

      2) Completely independent - we do not care which energy supplier you are with or who you may want to change to as long as you aren't paying more than you need to

We receive a lot of referrals from other frontline organisations such as Horton Housing, the Council's Living Well Team and the Citizen's Advice.

What advice can we provide during a home visit?

We can advise on things like:

    •  Understanding your energy bills
    •  How to compare energy prices and switch to a cheaper supplier or tariff
    •  Financial support that is available to help with energy costs, such as the £140 Warm Home Discount
    •  Dealing with energy debts, including helping with applications to Energy Trust Funds to get debt written off
    •  Schemes to improve the energy effiicency of your home through insulation or a replacement boiler
    •  Smart meters
    •  Heating controls
    •  Ways to reduce water costs, including the cost effectiveness of a water meter and other schemes available to  cap water costs for low income households
    •  General ways to reduce energy use in the home
    •  Other services available in your area, including signposting to other organisations

We have visited 100s of households in Selby District over the last few years and made savings of over £100,000
